special forces

Special Forces:

SAS: (COUNTRY: UK)

(Based: Hereford, England) Established as a WW2 long distance commando squad, it achieved success throughout North Africa, Normandy, and lesser known, Burma. The squad was considered for downgrading to a normal army unit or even disbanded, but the SAS was very important in Malaya (part of anti-Communist guerrilla war), that they were kept as the special forces of Britain. They captured the world’s attention with the counter-terrorist raid on the Iranian Embassy in 1980.

Organization

They are considered one of (if not the best) special commando force in the world. The organization of the force is the following:

22nd SAS Regiment
21st SAS Regiment (Artists)
23rd SAS Regiment
HQ (Credenhill, near Hereford)
HQ (Regent's Park, London)
HQ (Kingstanding)
A Squadron
A Squadron (Regent's Park)
A Squadron (Invergowrie/Glasgow)
B Squadron
C Squadron (Basingstoke/Cambridge/Southampton)
B Squadron (Leeds)
D Squadron
E Squadron (Newport)
C Squadron (Newcastle/Manchester)

Each Squadron has its own speciality troops. It includes Air (parachuting), Boat (Aquatic Operations), Mobility (Land based), and Mountain (climbing).

Weapons: Although they use all the regular British army weapons (SA80, Minimi, AWP…etc) they are more adapted with the MP5 from H&K, and also HK33. The MP5 and the HK33 are restricted to only the special forces of the UK.

JTF2 (COUNTRY: CANADA)

(Based Dwyer Hill Training Centre in Ottawa's rural west end) The JTF2 (Joint Task Force 2) is the special forces of Canada. There isn’t much information about it as the Canadian Government is very tight-lipped about the force. But from what we know, it was originated from the RCMP (Royal Canadian Mounted Police)’s SERT (Special Emergency Response Team) and it has participated in unconfirmed action in Nepal, Zaire, Kosovo, Rwanda, Tanzania, Peru, Congo, Sudan, Bolivia and also with Native groups in British Columbia, Ontario, and Quebec (notably Oka). There is confirmed action in Haiti (current), Afghanistan (Current), and reportedly by the Pentagon, Iraq (the release of the Christian Peacekeepers).

Organization:

From what we know, there are about 600 soldiers in the JTF2; there is also an Airborne Special Regiment with 750 soldiers in development right now. Otherwise, it’s very vague about the structure of the JTF2.

Weapons: Like many special forces, they use regular army equipment (C8, C9, LRSW)
